Compensatory Damages
Compensatory damages are a category of money damages that serve to compensate an injured party. The at-fault party or his or her insurance company make restitution to offset medical expenses, lost wages, and any expenses related to the plaintiff’s injury. Additionally, there are non-economic compensatory damages for pain and suffering, mental anguish, and loss of companionship or consortium. Other types of damages include collection damages and punitive damages.
