Letter of Protection (LOP)
An LOP helps injured people pay for medical care they cannot afford. Insurance companies generally pay for medical treatment after an injured party has received medical care. Some doctors will refuse to treat patients if their injuries are not covered by their normal health insurance. An LOP is issued by an injured party’s attorney as an agreement to cover costs not covered by their primary health insurance.
